Ransomware Surges, Data Breaches Expose Millions

Ransomware attacks have seen a significant increase of 25%, with 146 threat groups now active, according to an updated analysis of Black Kite's 2026 Ransomware Report. Attackers are increasingly employing AI for sophisticated social engineering, including deepfake audio in vishing campaigns. Defenders are advised to monitor for specific command-line activities and failed logon events. Mitigation strategies now emphasize Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all remote access and privileged accounts, alongside continuous user training to counter AI-driven phishing and vishing.

In parallel, multiple high-impact data breaches have affected millions. A significant incident at 700Credit, an auto industry credit check provider, exposed the personal data of 5.6 million individuals, including Social Security numbers. Separately, a database of nearly 200,000 supporters of Hungary's Tisza Party was compromised, triggering a government investigation. The Anubis ransomware group also targeted Coca-Cola's subsidiary Fairlife, among other breaches, underscoring ongoing threats to sensitive data across diverse sectors.
